How to Apply for Saudi Premium Residency: The Application Sequence

Domira Team June 4, 2026 4 min read

The order in which a Premium Residency application actually moves, from choosing a product to activating the permit, with what to prepare at each stage.

A Premium Residency application moves through product selection, an online application, document review, security and medical checks, a decision, payment and activation. Most delays come from starting the form before the evidence is ready, especially translations and attestations. The sequence below is the one that keeps the file moving.

Before stage one

Before you open an application, be clear about which product you are applying for and whether you can evidence each criterion on paper. The Center judges the file you submit, not the story behind it, so a strong case with weak documents will stall. Build the evidence pack first and treat the online form as the last step of preparation, not the first.

  • A valid passport with enough remaining validity for the process and the first period of residence.
  • A decision on the product, confirmed against the criteria currently shown on the Center portal.
  • Evidence for each eligibility criterion, with certified translations where the originals are not in Arabic or English.
  • Clarity on which family members will be included and the documents that prove each relationship.
  • A clean understanding of any past visa issues or overstays, which should be disclosed and explained rather than discovered.

Stage 1: Select the product

Compare the unlimited, limited-duration and purpose-based products against your reason for moving. An investor who plans to hold a company, a specialist with a job offer and a property owner each land on different routes, and the evidence differs sharply.

  • Deliverable: A one-page note stating the chosen product and how you meet each criterion.
  • Owner: Applicant, with an adviser if the fit is unclear.
  • Approval gate: Every criterion mapped to a document you already hold or can obtain.

Stage 2: Assemble and legalise documents

Gather identity documents, proof of qualification, financial or professional evidence and family records. Documents issued abroad often need attestation in the issuing country and recognition for Saudi use, and translations must be by a translator whose work the authorities accept.

  • Deliverable: A complete, translated and attested document pack.
  • Owner: Applicant.
  • Approval gate: No document in the pack that is expired or due to expire during processing.

Stage 3: Submit the online application

Create the account on the Center portal, enter the application for the chosen product and upload the pack. Details must match your passport exactly, including name order and transliteration, since mismatches are a common cause of queries.

  • Deliverable: A submitted application with a reference number.
  • Owner: Applicant.
  • Approval gate: Application fee paid where required and submission confirmed.

Stage 4: Respond to review and queries

The Center may ask for clarifications or further documents. Reply completely and in one go where possible. Partial replies restart the clock on the query and can make the file look less organised than it is.

  • Deliverable: Written responses to each query with supporting documents.
  • Owner: Applicant or authorised representative.
  • Approval gate: All queries closed with no open requests on the portal.

Stage 5: Security and medical checks

Applicants complete the checks the product requires, which usually include security screening and a medical examination. Where you are outside the Kingdom, confirm where and how the medical can be done and whether results from abroad are accepted.

  • Deliverable: Completed checks recorded against the application.
  • Owner: Applicant.
  • Approval gate: Check results accepted without a request to repeat them.

Stage 6: Decision and payment

On approval you receive a notice setting out the product, its term and the fee to pay. Read the conditions attached, including any obligations to keep an investment, role or property in place, before you pay.

  • Deliverable: Approval notice and payment receipt.
  • Owner: Applicant.
  • Approval gate: Conditions of the approval read, understood and recorded.

Stage 7: Activate and add dependants

After payment, the residency is issued and linked to your identity in government systems. Dependants are then added according to the product rules, and you set up access to Absher so you can manage the file yourself.

  • Deliverable: Active residency, dependants registered, Absher access working.
  • Owner: Applicant.
  • Approval gate: Status visible correctly in Absher for you and each family member.

Handovers between stages

The fragile handover is between document preparation and submission. Attestation abroad can take longer than any stage inside the Kingdom, and an application submitted with a missing attestation simply waits. The second weak point is between approval and activation: people pay and then find the conditions ask for something they had not planned, such as keeping funds in a particular form.

How you know it is finished

The process is complete when your residency and each dependant's status show correctly in government systems, you hold the approval and payment records, and you have a written list of the conditions that keep the status valid, with dates for any renewal or review.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Saudi Premium Residency application take?

It depends on the product, how complete the file is, the volume of applications and how quickly you answer queries. The Center does not bind itself to one timescale for every case, so plan around your document preparation, which is the part you control. Ask the Center or a practitioner for a current indication for your product before you set a moving date.

Can I apply for Premium Residency from outside Saudi Arabia?

The portal accepts applications online, and people apply both from inside the Kingdom and from abroad. What differs is how you complete steps such as the medical examination and whether you need to be present for any stage. Check the instructions for your product and location before you book travel around the application.

Do I need a lawyer to apply for Premium Residency?

There is no rule that you must use one, and many applicants file directly. An adviser is worth considering when your eligibility rests on complex evidence, such as a business plan, investment structure or unusual qualifications, or when you have a past immigration issue. The adviser prepares the file; the decision always stays with the Center.

Can my family be included in my Premium Residency application?

Premium Residency products generally allow the holder to have family members reside with them, but the categories of relative covered and the process for adding them depend on the product. Prepare marriage and birth certificates with the correct attestations early, since they are often the slowest documents to obtain.
